The A1 Grand Prix series has appointed global sales and marketing agency Octagon Worldwide to assist in the strategic development and co-ordination of commercial sales for the series.

The operation will be based in Octagon's London offices and members of the newly-strengthened A1GP commercial team will work alongside Octagon on a day-to-day basis.

The commercial team cover all regions of the world, reporting to chief commercial officer and regional CEO for the Americas, Scott Hollingsworth. New appointments to the team include Julian Cottam, as general manager for commercial development, and Tarek Mokbel, general manager for the same sector in the Asia-Pacific region.

Cottam, who has been involved in the sport for over 25 years and has worked with Prodrive and both the McLaren and Renault F1 teams, will be based in London. He will be responsible for co-ordinating sales development and also work on finding new commercial partners for the series. Mokbel will manage sales development and partnerships across the Asia-Pacific region from the company's Singapore office. He has recently been working for Motorsport Asia and has also worked for Blackrock Sports Marketing on sponsorship acquisition for golf, rugby and motorsport.

In line with the regionalisation of the series, South African-based Simon Robinson, who has worked for the series since 2005, is now general manager for commercial development in the Middle East and Africa, while Stewart Bain, who works from the London offices of both A1GP and Octagon, is to become general manager for commercial development in Europe.
