David Martinez has revealed that he will rejoin Team Mexico to compete in the season finale of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport at Brands Hatch next weekend, but in an elevated role.

The erstwhile Champ Car driver drove the Mexican car in the rookie sessions at its home event, but will take over race duties for the UK finale, returning to the cockpit for a full weekend for the first time since 2005, when he contested the rounds in Germany and South Africa. Since then, he has been plying his trade in Champ Car and the ALMS, and last weekend posted his best CCWS finish by taking eighth at Long Beach.

"I'm really happy to be back in A1GP after all this time," Martinez said, "Last month, I got a little taste of it, but now I'll have the chance get more laps in and be as competitive as possible.

"It's going to be difficult to fight with the top teams because they have been developing their set-ups all year, but I think there is some potential and we are going to do everything we can to get the Mexico car in front. I've never been to Brands Hatch before, but I know it is a very exciting racetrack. I'm very relaxed and I plan on enjoying every single lap and closing out the season as strong as possible for Team Mexico so we can begin preparations for the 2008-09 season."
