The ambitious A1 Grand Prix series has appointed vastly experienced motorsport manager John Wickham as its first technical operations advisor, with particular responsibility to oversee the test programme for the new car that will begin at the end of this month.

Wickham, who most recently oversaw the 2003 Bentley Le Mans programme, will be in charge of the entire testing programme and will also represent A1 Grand Prix at all technical meetings with its suppliers.

"It was essential to have an experienced co-ordinator once the test programme got underway, and John comes with all the right credentials," general manager Stephen Watson explained, "He has been involved in the sport for over 30 years, in every formula up to, and including, Formula One, and his technical and operational knowledge will be invaluable."

Wickham's motorsport career began in 1973 when he was appointed competitions manager of the British Automobile and Racing Club. Since then, teams he has been involved with include Surtees, March, Spirit, Footwork Arrows and Audi Sport UK. His most recent success came by leading Bentley to a 1-02 result at Le Mans last year.
