Speculation is rife at the Nurburgring that Willi Weber, the man who guided both Schumacher brothers to grand prix success, is to restart his team interests by bidding for the franchise to run Germany's A1 Grand Prix team.

According to grandprix.com, Weber, who accompanies the Schumachers to every Formula One event, is in line to become the next 'seatholder' unveiled by Sheikh Maktoum's burgeoning series, which will kick off at Brands Hatch in September.

Now 63, the German's team was a force on the national Formula Three scene in the 1980s and '90s, taking Michael Schumacher to the title in 1990, as well as Jo Winkelhock,Pedro Lamy and Jos Verstappen in 1988, '92 and '93 respectively. When Schumacher moved into F1, Weber gradually wound down his F3 interests, and currently masterminds the careers of Germany's two foremost stars, looking after everything from contracts to merchandise. Weber is renowned for having a supply of world champion caps ready to hand out at the event that Michael clinches the title, each year with a unique and instantly collectable design.
