Dutch racing driver Jos Verstappen has been announced as the driver of the Dutch entry in the A1GP and will be driving an orange liviered car for his legions of fans when the new racing series gets underway at Brands Hatch in the UK in September.

The announcement, reported on Verstappen's personal website, sees Jos back in frontline motorsport action after his F1 career faltered, and attempts to get a seat in the Champ Car World Series came to naught.

"Of course it's very unusual having to defend your country. The fact that next week I will climb into a bright orange car not to represent a team or a sponsor, but an entire population does make this very special," Verstappen says of his new drive. "I find it an honour that I will be able to do this. Off course I do not have to explain to the real car - and race fans what the potential is of the combination Jan Lammers, Huub Rothengatter and Jos Verstappen."

The Dutch franchise in the new A1GP series, which aims to be a 'world cup' of motorsport was purchased by Jan Lammers who announced that Jos would be the driver.

"We wanted to put together a team we could be proud of as a country and the icing on the cake is having Jos drive for us," said Lammers. "He is without doubt the most popular driver from the Netherlands and his results speak for themselves. I am sure the thousands of fans who have followed his career closely will now be waving our country's flag in this innovative new series."

The prospect of 'Jos the Boss' displaying his driving prowess around the world in the Lola-built Zytek V8-powered, slick shod and no traction control car is one that race fans really should look forward to come the season start in September.
