After the first day's running at the Silverstone A1GP test Malaysian seat holder Alex Yoong declared himself happy with progress both with the car, and with himself getting back to single seater track action.

Young ended Wednesday's running at the venue of the British GP with the seventh fastest time, but upped the ante to the fourth quickest by the end of the testing on Thursday.

"It was a very positive day all round," said Yoong at the end of day one. "As we did not take delivery of the car until late last week and had a lot to do in preparation for the running of the car, today's focus was primarily on a shake-down and systems check session.

"Only later did I start to put my foot down a bit. We ran the car unpainted in its 'bare' form to ensure we had time to properly prepare the car. We will have the car painted into its scheme in time for when we run in France later in August."

The former F1 and Champ Car driver was happy to be back in action behind the wheel. "I was a little concerned about being out of a single seater race car for some time as I was racing in the V8s in Australia but, after 10 laps, I felt as if I had never really left racing a single seater, so I'm quite pleased with how the day has gone for the team today. We are looking forward to getting out on to the track tomorrow with new tyres and starting to put the car slowly but surely through its paces.

"The team members are also starting to get to know and work with each other well. That's so important at this level of motorsport. I, of course, need to have confidence in how they have prepared the car and they need to have confidence that I will do justice to their hard work. As the car has been so late in delivery to us, the technical team worked to 0400 this morning to ensure we were on track on time. I am grateful to them for that kind of application and enthusiasm. Things are going well."

Yoong is expected to undertake more driving duties of the Team Malaysia car whilst GP2 runner Fairuz Fauzy will also get behind the wheel.
