A1 Team France boss Jean Paul Driot has said that he sees no reason why his squad cannot be in the thick of the battle win the World Cup of Motorsport's opening double-header at Brands Hatch this weekend.

Speaking ahead of the inaugural 'nation versus nation' event at Brands Hatch DAMS owner Driot expressed confidence in his line-up, bolstered by strong testing performances at both Silverstone and Paul Ricard in the past month. Although a handful of drivers ran the patriotically-livered tricolour Lola, GP2 regulars Alexandre Pr?mat and Nicolas Lapierre will be charged with piloting the machine on its debut. Whether each driver will take one of the two races, or whether one acts as cover for the other, remains to be seen, but Premat and Lapierre were both on the pace at Ricard.

"I'm can't wait for the season to start," smiled Driot, whose DAMS concern looks after several 'overseas' squads as well as the French equipe, "The atmosphere at Brands Hatch will be something special, and the whole French team can't wait to get stuck in.

"I'm confident that we will be competitive and our car should be very reliable if the results from our pre-season tests at Silverstone and Paul Ricard are anything to go by."

Premat and Lapierre will find themselves in familiar company during the weekend, with fellow GP2 drivers Nelson Piquet Jr, Scott Speed and Mathias Lauda all having been recruited to lead their national teams. Fairuz Fauzy and Gianmaria Bruni may also join the fold when Malaysia and Italy decide on the identity of their drivers, while Neel Jani may also be present at the wheel of Switzerland's entry.
