Alexandre Premat placed France atop the timing monitors in the third practice session for the season opener to the A1GP championship at Brands Hatch.

Blue skies and sunshine greeted the runners on Saturday providing a good contrast to the wet afternoon session on Friday.

Brazil, with Nelson Piquet Jr at the wheel, set the early pace but it was Matt Halliday in the Team New Zealand car which set a scintillating pace in the later half, over a second faster than the rest of the field with its thirteenth lap.

France would go quicker late on in the hour's running, with red flags making brief appearances for offs including Team Russia coming down Paddock Hill Bend.

Also having moments in the session was Friday pace setter Scott Speed, going long and into the gravel at Druids, and Mattias Lauda just after setting his fastest lap.

Some teams and drivers are finding the step up to A1GP levels of performance to be quite a big one with Team Russia's fastest time some fourteen seconds off the pace with Alexey Vasiliev at the wheel.
