Nelson Piquet Jr's fastest lap from the sprint race at EuroSpeedway Lausitzring on Sunday means that Brazil maintain a slender advantage at the head of the championship standings despite a dominant performance by Team France.

Despite a slow pit stop and an eventual tangle with the Japanese entry of Hideki Noda, Piquet Jr's best lap from the sprint race gave the Brazilian team a vital extra championship point. That point means Brazil keep a one-point lead over the doubly victorious French team and the surprisingly consistent New Zealand entry.

Robbie Kerr's fighting second place in the feature race means that John Surtees' Team Great Britain move up to seventh place overall with 15 points, 15 behind the current leaders.

So far a total of 17 nations have scored points with several surprising names near the top of the table. Switzerland were helped by a strong run from Neel Jani on Sunday to move into fourth place overall while Sean McIntosh's awesome podium display pushes the previously unfancied Canadian entry into eighth spot.
