All members of the A1 Team Malaysia squad will wear black armbands this weekend following the passing of Datin Seri Endon Mahmood, wife of Malaysian prime minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Endon Mahmood, 64, had battled bravely with cancer, but lost her fight on Thursday morning. As a mark of respect, the Malaysian team will also ask for the national flag to flown at half mast at Estoril, and has withdrawn from all non-track and hospitality events.

"I have been asked by everyone in our team to offer, on their behalf, sincere condolences to prime minister Badawi and his family at this very sad time," team director Alex Yoong said, "As we take part in the A1 Grand Prix event this weekend, our thoughts will naturally be back in Malaysia as we share in our country's mourning.

"Datin Seri Endon was a much-loved and much-respected person, who was dedicated to her duties and devoted to her community and charity work. I know first-hand of how she focused on the welfare and well-being of women and children, as I, and other members of my family, met her personally and will remember her all our lives."
