Raindrops keep falling on my head... That was the story of the first practice session at Eastern Creek in Australia as the first practice session took place on Friday afternoon at the Sydney track.

The session started dry and Nelson Piquet Jr for Team Brazil was the fastest man on track, before a red flag brought about by the returned Team Japan, now with Hayanari Shimoda at the wheel, caused everyone to come in.

Piquet set a 1min 19.266secs in this early running, a time which would not be bettered in the more slippery conditions later.

When the competitors returned to the track a gentle but persistant rain had already started. As the rain got heavier so fewer cars took to the circuit, only going back out for the final fifteen minutes or so at the 3.93 km circuit, when the rain lightened.

The session was ended early with a second red flag as the Team Lebanon car enjoyed a spin.
