Canada will start the fifth round of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport from the penultimate row of the grid after Sean McIntosh was caught out by the difficult conditions at Sepang.

The youngster was lying in eleventh place going into the second 15 minute qualifying session when rain started to fall as the 24 drivers tried to get their second flying lap in as soon as the green flag flew.

However McIntosh went off track in the damp conditions, and although he was able to complete the lap, his time was only good enough for 22nd place. With the rain only getting heavier, he was unable to improve on his time in the third and fourth sessions and will now have work to do on race day if he is to fight for points.

"We took a bit of a conservative approach with a set-up that we knew worked on old tyres so we knew we'd got time to come for the final two sets of slicks," he said. "Then the rain came and I slid off the circuit which cost us ten seconds or so which puts us back down the grid but we have two races tomorrow and that's the main thing. We just need to move up in the sprint and then get a good pit stop in the feature race.

"I'm definitely disappointed where we are because we know the car's good enough to be in the top three but that's the way circumstances can affect what happens."
