Robbie Kerr said he was pleased to qualify on the second row of the grid after setting the fourth quickest time ahead of the fifth round of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport in Malaysia.

A good time in the opening 15 minute session put Kerr in a strong position going into the second session, and when rain started to fall, Kerr controlled the car to set the second quickest time of the session to maintain his position on the grid - where he lines up alongside Ralph Firman in the Team Ireland entry.

"Session one was quite good," he said. "We went out fairly late-on, but didn't get a clear lap because I had to overtake Australia just after turns seven and eight so that put me off the pace a bit.

"It started to spit before session two and everyone went out together. Unfortunately I was about to start my lap and the cars in front slowed down so I had to back right off to give myself a clear lap. Then I went for it. It was spitting with rain about half way round and again coming into turns seven and eight someone had spun off so we had to ease off and be cautious but got a good solid rest of the lap together, a reasonable lap time.

"France went out just behind us in segment two and went slower so the greasiness showed. Fourth is a good place to start - we can do something from there - we've just got to wait and see what happens to the weather."
