The cancellation of the ninth round of the first season of the A1 Grand Prix has been confirmed by the series organisers.

The race, due to be held at the Brazilian circuit of Curitiba, could not be run due to the track being unable to comply with the licence requirements whilst Formula One Grand Prix venue Interlagos is understood to have turned down the race with its relationship with F1 no doubt a factor.

The cancellation was confirmed buried deep in a press release previewing this weekend's action in Dubai, the seventh paragraph stating:

"While the original A1GP schedule included 12 races, several of them were provisional depending on track licences, etc. Unfortunately, the Brazilian race in Curitiba planned for 12 February has had to be cancelled. Currently an alternative venue is being investigated but there is no news on where this could be."

Presumably the organisers do have some idea of the possibilities.
