Championship contenders Switzerland put in a respectable performance in practice for the latest rounds of A1 Grand Prix at Funididora Park in Mexico, with Neel Jani overcoming the tricky conditions to manage fourth and ninth fastest times.

With Jani aiming to end his stint in the car on a high before he resumes his testing duties for the Scuderia Toro Rosso F1 team, the Swiss driver had to contend with tricky conditions, courtesy of persistent drizzle that affected many of the runners.

However, Jani, who remains the only driver realistically capable of overhauling the dominant French team, is confident that he can improve ahead of qualifying. "It was very wet out there on the track," he said. "It is always interesting to discover a new track.

"I had to be really cautious. This track is as slippery as ice and there is no need to take any risks on such a wet surface. The rain and a few red flags made it difficult to learn much. Let's hope for improvement for a good qualifying session tomorrow."
