Having missed the previous round of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport due to other commitments, Mathias Lauda returned to action for Team Austria at Laguna Seca to secure two championship points in the feature race.

Lauda started from 20th position for the 30-minute sprint race and put in a consistent drive in tricky conditions to take twelfth place - securing a better grid slot for the second race in the process.

Lauda started from the sixth row of the grid and made his mandatory pitstop early on to change from wet to slick tyres. He soon made his way through the field into a points scoring position and when Team France were forced to retire he secured a ninth place finish - taking the Austrian points tally up to 14 for the season.

"It's been a difficult weekend, it's been tricky to drive here in the conditions and again we struggled in practice and qualifying and then in the races we were quicker," he said. "I am happy that I scored some points in the second race, but for China it would be great if we had a good start to the weekend."
