Following the confirmation that the Dutch Zandvoort circuit will be playing host to the opening round of the 2006/2007 A1 Grand Prix Championship, Team Netherlands set about getting their fans in the spirit during practice for the final round of the year in China.

However, with an eye on fourth place in the championship, Jos Verstappen endured a difficult start to the weekend at the Shanghai circuit, posting 11th and 12th fastest. Crucially though, they still ended the session quicker than their nearest Brazil, Portugal and New Zealand rivals, while the fact that the top 13 were covered by just a second indicates how difficult the competition will be in qualifying.

"We have to work very hard to find the balance, we could not find that today," lamented Verstappen. "We know in which direction we have to go to find the right balance. Especially in the slow corners I suffered quite a bit from understeer, the real speed wasn't there today.

"The circuit is really nice. There are a few corners which are not my favourite ones, such as the first corner, but there are a few nice and fast follow throughs here and long straights. This circuit has got a bit of everything."
