The inaugural season of A1 Grand Prix has only just finished but it seems Dutch fans cannot wait until October when the championship rolls around again to Zandvoort after 50,000 tickets sold out in just five days.

Rewarded with the curtain raiser following their enthusiastic, season-long support of Team Netherlands and Jos Verstappen, fans eagerly snapped up tickets to see their national hero, with extra tickets also now disappearing fast.

Having recorded exceptionally healthy viewing figures through the year as they watched Netherlands on their way to seventh in the championship, the volume of spectators has now forced the circuit to consider additional grandstands.

With the full calendar yet to be announced and the start of the season some six months away, Team Netherlands boss Jan Lammers has been overwhelmed by the support from his home nation.

"I'm delighted that A1 Grand Prix has been received so enthusiastically in Holland, and the huge support that A1 Team Netherlands has here is reflected in the overwhelming demand we have seen for race tickets.

"The Zandvoort circuit and community, together with A1 Team Netherlands and A1 Grand Prix are putting together a great event for the whole weekend, with parties and events all over the city. I can't wait for October when we have the chance to race in front of grandstands packed with patriotic fans."
