A1 Grand Prix Team New Zealand and driver Jonny Reid led the first of four qualifying segments at Brno on Saturday, shattering the lap record in the process.

Reid got around the rolling 14-turn 3.36-mile Brno circuit in a best time of 1min 45.676secs during the opening 15-minute session, easily surpassing the existing track record, set all the way back in 2001 by Jean Marc Gounon, and placing the beautifully liveried all-black New Zealand entry on top of the charts.

Zandvoort hero Niko Hulkenberg was the only other driver under 1min 46secs with a best time of 1:45.917secs to put Germany in second place with Team Malaysia's Alex Yoong third and France's Nicolas Lapierre fourth.

Team Ireland's Michael Devaney was 15th fastest while Team Great Britain's Robbie Kerr was only 21st as once again John Surtees' team elected to save his fresh tyres for later.
