Nico Hulkenberg is well placed to keep A1 Team Germany in the championship lead after the youngster secured a front row position for the second race of the season at Brno.

Having caused a massive surprise at Zandvoort when he belied his inexperience to claim victory in tricky conditions, Hulkenberg extended that form to the Czech circuit, pushing Jonny Reid in the New Zealand entry throughout the four qualifying sessions, even if he eventually lost out by a comfortable four tenths.

Nonetheless, Hulkenberg was delighted to once again be featuring at the head of the grid, even if he admitted there was a massive differential in performance between new and used tyres.

"I'm delighted to have improved again when compared to the season opener," he said. "On the first run on new tyres we immediately recorded the second fastest time, even though I was driving cautiously. Eighth was all I could do with the same set of tyres in the second run, because my car oversteered too much. I used new tyres again for our third attempt and was second again.

Nonetheless, Hulkenberg claims he finally found the right set-up on his car for the final qualifying segment, leaving him confident that he can prove his win in Holland was by no means a fluke.

"Then I wanted to see what was really possible: We made a small adjustment to the front wing, which was absolutely correct since I set my personal fastest lap on the new tyres. Only Johnny Reid was a tick faster. The races on Sunday will be difficult. It's easy to drift off the ideal line in Brno - and there is lots of dirt offline around the circuit and you can lose loads of time."
