Richard Stanton and Mike Wilds will be contesting the Privilege Insurance British GT Championship this year in a new TVR Tuscan R.

The stunning car was on display on the Motoring News stand at Autosport International and will head up a four-strong PowerTour team for Denis Leech Motorsport.

Leech, a veteran racer in his own right, will field three cars in the TVR Tuscan Challenge as well as the GTO racer for Stanton and Wilds. To ensure that he has a very full season of racing, Stanton will also handle one of the team's Tuscan Challenge cars alongside John Hartshorne and Heinz Schumann.

Stanton only started racing in 1999, but soon proved his pace in Tuscans and went on to finish seventh in the 2000 championship.

Wilds, meanwhile, is one of Britain's most versatile and experienced racing drivers. In a long and hugely successful career, he has raced just about every type of car and took part in three Grand Prix in the mid-1970s.

Through the 1980s he raced in touring cars, single-seaters and classic cars, but it was sports car racing that was to become his main focus into the 1990s. He has contested just about every major sportscar race in the world, including the Le Mans 24-hour race on several occasions. He won the BRDC Sports Car Championship in 1990 and has won the RJB Thundersports title five times.

The team hopes to start testing the Tuscan R in early March in readiness for a full assault on the supremely competitive GTO category.
