John Hartshorne and Piers Johnson have signed to drive Racesport's TVR Tuscan R in this year's BRDC British GT Championship.

The car will be run by ex-BTCC racer Dennis Leech from his Exeter base, and will run in the GTO class of the world's leading domestic GT series.

Exeter-based Hartshorne has raced TVR Tuscans with Leech in recent years, but the decision to move to the GT series will mark his graduation to long-distance racing. Johnson, meanwhile, has raced in Rovers, MGFs and the FIA Sportscar Championship in the past, as well as occasional outings in the BRDC British GT Championship.

"John has gained a lot of experience in TVRs recently, and Piers was very quick when we tested, so we should be set for a good season," team boss Leech reported.

The car, which ran in the championship last year, will run in new colours for 2002 in deference to sponsors Harman Kardon and OPC with Ferrari red and black being the new-look.

The TVR joins the new Morgan Aero 8 in Leech's Racesport stable for this year's championship

The opening round of the BRDC British GT Championship is at Brands Hatch on 1 April.
