Veloqx Motorsport made a major impression ahead of its return to the British GT Championship as teams tested at Thruxton today [Friday 15 August].

The team's Ferrari 360 in the expert hands of Andrew Kirkaldy and Tim Mullen set a scorching pace to head the times, while the Tech 9 Porsche of Tom Shrimpton/Liz Halliday set the pace in GT Cup.

In two hour-long tests at the high-speed Hampshire track, the Ferrari set a stunning pace in the first session to lap over a second and a half faster than the rest of the field. However, in the second session the times were much closer and the Mosler MT900R of title contenders Shaun Balfe and Jamie Derbyshire ended the session fastest.

Well in contention in third was the DeWalt/Racesport TVR T400R of Richard Stanton/Mike Jordan, but the Le Mans car was only two-tenths of a second faster than the CDL TVR T400R of Steve Hyde/Gareth Evans.

Fifth fastest was a great performance from the Xero Competition team with Peter Le Bas and Ricky Cole running very strongly as they tuned the mighty Chevrolet Corvette into the sweeps of Thruxton. Completing the top six times was the Mosler of Martin Short/Tom Herridge.

With so many top line cars at the head of the field, the prospects are strong for a thrilling race on Sunday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Tech 9/Gruppe M squad set the pace in the GT Cup class with the Porsche 911GT3 Cup of Shrimpton/Halliday just heading the sister car of championship leaders Patrick Pearce and Matt Griffin.

The new pairing of Paul Whight/Peter Snowdon put their Lotus Elise into third fastest from the Team Aero Morgan of Rob Wells/Keith Ahlers.
