Hydrex Honda pair Karl Harris and Stuart Easton are talking up their chances ahead of the 2009 British Superbike Championship after a successful first day of testing the bike at Almeria.

Hydrex, who sport an all-new rider line-up in 2009, travelled to the Spanish circuit to join HM Plant Honda and Crescent Suzuki by conducting their off-season testing in warmer climes.

Although wet and windy weather was a fixture on the first day of running, both riders were impressed with their early impressions of the Honda bike, with ex-Yamaha rider Harris labelling the CBR1000RR as 'mega'

"The test has been really positive today and we were doing low 1min 38secs, which I was pretty happy with as we didn't get many laps this morning as we had a few niggly problems that we sorted out pretty quickly," he told the official British Superbike website.

"The new Hydrex Honda is just awesome and the first time we went out on track it stunned me how fast it was straight off. The whole package is just mega and this is the first time we have really seen its potential, with all the electronics and chassis changes for this year we will be up there from the start.

"We have been focusing on suspension and as the day went on both me and Stuart (Easton) were going quicker and the lap times were dropping. There is still more to come and today was just the start. Tomorrow we will be working more on the setup, the electronics and possibly some race runs so watch this space."

Easton, meanwhile, was pleased to be back working with the team having signed for Hydrex soon after taking them to the 2008 Macau Grand Prix title. Although he admits the bike is 'tricky', he adds that he is confident there is much more to come.

"It has been a good day for the whole team today. It is the first chance to really work through the positioning of everything to get me feeling comfortable on the Hydrex Honda. We have been doing some short runs on track and the bike is very sharp and responsive, the speed is one of the most impressive things about it.

"The Hydrex Honda is very tricky so that gives us plenty to work through during the rest of the test, but we are making good progress so I am feeling positive."
