HM Plant Honda are facing a race against time to get Ryuichi Kiyonari on the grid for the opening round of the 2011 MCE British Superbike Championship after the reigning champion crashed in warm-up.

Kiyonari came off his bike at Clarke Curve with eight minutes of the session remaining, giving his mechanics a tough job to rebuild the CBR1000RR in time for the first race (scheduled at 13.00GMT)

Tommy Hill was quickest in the short session, ahead of two riders who will be looking to make significant progress from their mid-field grid positions, Josh Brookes and John Hopkins.

Pole sitter Shane Byrne was fourth best, ahead of Michael Laverty, Jon Kirkham
