Tommy Hill has established himself as the rider to beat ahead of qualifying for the second round of the MCE British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park after dominating third free practice.

Having commanded a seven tenth advantage over the competition in FP2, Hill lowered his personal best to 1min 35.608secs to remain half a second up on Stuart Easton, the Scot continuing his fine form on the MSS Colchester Kawasaki.

Hill's Swan Yamaha team-mate Michael Laverty was third fastest, ahead of John Hopkins, the American shrugging off a fall to return to the circuit and pump in the fourth best lap of the session.

Michael Rutter joined Hopkins in making big gains to set the fifth fastest time, ahead of Gary Mason on the second Kawasaki, Dan Linfoot, James Westmoreland, FP1 pace setter Josh Brookes and Ryuichi Kiyonari.

Elsewhere, Jon Kirkham suffered a crash that ruled him out of much of the session, while Glen Richards maintained WFR Honda's perfect start to the season by going fastest of the EVO riders.
