British Motorsport Promoters are pleased to announce that for the 2002 Supersport Championship eligible machines will continue to be those complying to the technical regulations of the FIM.

The original intent had been to adjust the eligibility criteria to reduce the cost of competing in the class, using regulations similar to those used in the Superstock championship, thus widening its appeal. However the issue was reconsidered after further discussions with the manufacturers and the teams who pledged their commitment and support to the Supersport championship on the basis of being run to FIM regulations.

"After hearing all points of views, and the reasoned discussions, we have agreed to maintain the current regulations for the 2002 season, and look forward to continued support and further growth in this championship which will again feature in the British Superbike Championship package," said series director Jos Foulston.
