Ryuichi Kiyonari continues to improve his odds in the 2014 MCE British Superbike Championship title race after triumphing over Shane Byrne for the second time in two races at Brands Hatch.

The Japanese rider, who returned to the winners' circle in Knockhill with BMW's first-ever BSB win, struck again at Brands Hatch, prevailing in a battle with championship leader Byrne to firm his place in the top six ahead of the Title Showdown.

Though mechanical problems would lose him ground in the second race, Kiyonari is now 27 points clear in the fight for the available six spots for the Title Showdown, putting him in position to challenge for a record-breaking fourth BSB title, an objective shared - and previously expected to go to - Byrne.

"In practice I was not as fast, but the team changed things on the bike and got it working well. That is why I can I can hardly believe we won, it is down to my team and I am very happy."
