Sean Emmett charged his IFC Ducati to Superpole start for the double race, sixth round of the Motor Cycle News British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch today, as he headed off the challenge of series leader Steve Hislop.

The Weybridge based rider took his second consecutive pole start with a lap of 1m 26.885s around the 2.62 mile Kent circuit, just 0.184 seconds ahead of Hislop, who used the one flying lap against the clock session to good effect, improving from sixth place on the leaderboard to ensure a front row start.

Hislop, riding the MonsterMob Ducati, is determined to return to his winning ways after seeing his lead in the Championship halved by Emmett's double victory last time out at Snetterton. Only 17 points separate them as they go into the half-way stage of the series.

"I mean business here and really need to take two victories - although I am clear in the points. I am keen to increase my advantage here," said Hislop who missed out on the chance of regaining the crown he held in 1995 through injuries sustained in the penultimate round of last year's title chase.

Emmett meanwhile is riding at his best: "I am enjoying my riding more now than ever - the bike is perfectly set-up and while Snetterton was a revelation, there is no reason why I cannot do the same here."

Reigning Champion John Reynolds set third best time the Rizla Suzuki GSX-R1000. The Renegade Ducati of Michael Rutter completed the front row line up.
