Rizla Suzuki's John Reynolds emphasised the growing force of the Suzuki GSX-R1000 here today at Rockingham Motor Speedway, Northants, taking his first pole position of the season.

Reynolds' time of 1 minute 09.988 seconds gave him the edge over a trio of Ducatis led by Sean Emmett, with Steve Hislop and Michael Rutter completing the front row of the grid for tomorrow's two 22 lap British Superbike Championship races.

A beaming Reynolds said: "I was hopeful of a good qualifying result today to back up last week's win. It's always a boost to start the race from the front and we'll make full use of that advantage."

Nine times TT winner David Jefferies, standing in for injured Karl Harris in tomorrow's British Superbike races, will start from 13th position having narrowly missed the third row of the grid in his first ride for the Rizla Suzuki team. With superpole being unfamiliar to the British Superstock regular, Jefferies was happy to improve on this morning's timed qualifying.

Team Manager Paul Denning concluded: "It's a great result for the team and another landmark for the championship itself. This first pole position for the 4-cylinder GSX-R1000 underlines the level of progress that we have made with the development of the machine during its first season of competitive racing."

"We are all delighted with the achievement. Qualifying doesn't mean everything but it is certainly a good indication that we are a serious force."
