An incident-packed 125cc race at Cadwell Park this weekend nearly resulted in another podium position for 2001 British 125 Champion Leon Camier and the Padgett's Junior team.

Starting from sixth on the grid, the Ashford teenager found himself down in 12th place on lap 2 after a first corner coming together with Hodgson followed by a grass tracking excursion when attempting to go around the outside of series leader Martin. Determined to get back amongst the leaders, Camier stormed through the field, gaining an incredible 7 places in 3 laps and lapping nearly 1 second faster than the rest of the field.

A pace car incident on lap 6 closed up the pack and resulted in a thrilling final five laps as the leaders fought desperately to gain an advantage. On the final lap the Padgett's rider forced his way into 2nd place going into Coppice but was unable to hold the advantage along Park Straight and had to settle for fourth place, less than 0.3 seconds behind third placeman Smart.

"We were on wet tyres because of the conditions, " reported Camier, "and they were pretty tired by the end, but I really enjoyed the race. It's just a bit frustrating that I couldn't hold on to that second place."

Padgett's teammate Daniel Coutts' weekend got off to a less than ideal start when a fall in qualifying left the Horsham schoolboy languishing in 12th place on the grid. Confidence restored by being fastest in the morning warm-up, Coutts set about making amends in the race but was repeatedly compromised by yellow-flag incidents.

After continuously trading places with Mainwaring, Weston and Veazey, Coutts found himself disadvantaged when Hodgson re-joined having fallen whilst in second place. The resultant scrap saw Coutts pushed wide going into the Mountain section and losing out in the final dash to the line by less than one tenth of a second.

"Good fun, but I was hoping to finish better than tenth," said Coutts afterwards, "I'm looking forward to a better result at Oulton even though it will be the first time I've raced there after the previous round was cancelled because of Reynolds' engine letting go and leaving oil on the track."
