2001 British 250 Champion Adrian Coates was true to his word at Oulton Park this weekend when he rode his Padgett's Suzuki into the points in both BSB races.

After a disappointing showing at last weekend's Cadwell meeting the Ulsterman vowed to make amends at Oulton and his determination paid off with a 12th place in race one and a season's best finish of 11th in race two.

"It's really come together this weekend," said Coates, "after my late start to the season I felt we were always playing catch-up, but now I'm confident I can get the best out of the bike. I'm looking forward to the remaining rounds and getting as many top ten finishes as possible."

A solid start from Coates in race one saw the beginning of a race long battle with Dean Ellison and Jamie Robinson while Jason Davis kept a watching brief just behind the sparring trio. Robinson eventually succumbed to the pressure and dropped back, leaving Coates to hold on to his advantage and cross the line less than one-tenth of a second ahead of Ducati-mounted Ellison.

Phil Giles continued his impressive form from Cadwell and was on a mission to catch his ex-GP rider teammate. Whilst Coates was busy up ahead, Leicester-born Giles forced his way through the field to finish in 14th place, dispensing with Gordon Blackley, Davis and Robinson on the way.

Race two saw a repeat of Coates' skirmish with Ellison, this time joined by Gary Mason and Paul Young. The four riders were never separated by more than 2 seconds throughout the race and the final positions were only decided on the last lap when Coates once again found the extra speed necessary to get in front of Ellison and claim 11th place.

Another strong showing from Giles resulted in the 27 year-old following Ellison home in 13th, 8 seconds ahead of next-placed finisher Robinson.

"I'm having a great time racing with Padgett's and getting points for the team in both legs at Cadwell and here is the icing on the cake," said the 2001 Powerbike Champion.

With only two rounds left in which to realise the goal of top ten finishes in their debut BSB year, the team will be all out to continue their progress at Mallory in two weeks time.
