The penultimate round of the British Superbike Championship takes place this weekend at Mallory Park, whose uncomplicated layout belies the immense amount of skill and concentration required to lap the 1.35-mile track at an average speed of over 100mph.

Mallory is also the home circuit of Hawk Kawasaki - the Coalville-based team's rider Glen Richards lives at Hinckley and Team Principal Stuart Hicken is Mallory Park's Marketing Manager.

Hicken, Richards and #22 Hawk Kawasaki rider Mark Burr are hoping that the strong affiliation will prove advantageous during this weekend's bid for glory.

"I'm feeling really confident about this weekend," stated Richards. "I had a good result at Mallory when I won the Race of the Year at the start of the season. We tested there last week and I can't believe how much better the Hawk Kawasaki feels than it did in March.

"Although these have been the only occasions that I've ridden the Hawk Kawasaki at Mallory this season, I have ridden my pushbike around the place thousands of times, so I know the track really well," added the Aussie. "The 750cc Kawasaki might lose out a little in the drive down to Gerrards but it corners so well that I should be able to make up a lot of time through the turns. If I concentrate on getting out of Gerrards perfectly on every lap I should be on for a strong finish."

Mark Burr is equally optimistic about his prospects for Sunday's two Superbike races. The 21-year-old Darlington-based rider has been on good form at recent rounds and also took to the podium at the Race of the Year.

"Mallory is a special event for Hawk Kawasaki," explained Burr. "I really enjoy racing there and expect to have a really good result this weekend. Last year James Haydon proved that 750's work well around the circuit and I think that the 1000cc four-cylinder bikes might be hard work through the hairpin and bus stop, so we should be in with a good chance.
"There are four races before the end of the season and I want to get at least a top ten finish in all of them," Burr added.
