James Ellison says he was able to establish a secure feeling with the new Kawasaki ZX-10R last time out at Oulton Park and is relishing the return to the Brands Hatch Indy circuit where he claimed a perfect race weekend last season.

After a tricky start to his 2016 campaign caused by a qualifying crash at Silverstone Ellison demonstrated his front-running pace in the slippery conditions at Oulton Park by claiming a third and a fourth.

The JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider has been battling to find a consistent feeling with the new machinery and Showa suspension but having made progress at the Cheshire track is confident he can demonstrate it at a circuit he's dominated at.

Having claimed his maiden BSB rostrum with the team two years ago around the Indy circuit layout, Ellison was untouchable last season notching up pole position and a double race victory.

With both his team-mates Leon Haslam and Peter Hickman taking wins in the opening two rounds Ellison is keen to add his name to the winners list and notch up some valuable podium credits with one eye on the Showdown.

"Brands Hatch is always a special event and I've had some really good results there, particularly around the shorter Indy track," Ellison said. "My very first race with the GBmoto team here in 2014 saw us secure a double podium and then last year we had a perfect weekend.

"With the circuit being so short, it's vital to get a strong qualifying position and with the times being as close as they have been this year I think it's going to be an interesting Saturday afternoon.

"We took a massive step forward at Oulton, which really helped to improve my feeling with the new ZX-10R, and it now feels like my bike so I'm really looking forward to this weekend."

Ellison currently sits just a point outside of the top six Showdown spots after Richard Cooper claimed a memorable maiden MCE British Superbike victory in race two at Oulton Park.
