Christian Iddon says even though the results weren't ideal he leaves Brands Hatch Indy on a positive note having uncovered quick race pace around the twisty track as he reflects on a strong start to the year.

The Tyco BMW rider came into round three as the surprise MCE British Superbike championship leader and despite struggling for consistent race pace around the 1.2-mile circuit battled to two points finishes with 11th in race one and seventh in race two.

The Stockport-based rider has slipped to third in the BSB standings, behind new leader Leon Haslam and Shane Byrne, and says the heavier disappointment has hit after claiming four rostrum results in the opening four races.

Iddon still remains comfortably inside the Showdown spots is content with his progress after the opening three rounds.

"Not the weekend I wanted but I'm coming home buzzing because finally we got the bike how I want it to feel in the second race," Iddon said. "The result wasn't massively different but trust me it felt a totally different race.

"All weekend we have been chasing front end feel and so we've been messing around a lot with radical stuff even during the races. As I came up to the grid for the first one we blue-tacked an Allen key to the tank if I wanted to change the setting if something was off on the warm-up laps. I didn't change anything, threw it over pit wall and it nearly hit the safety car coming down pit lane!

"11th and seventh isn't great but at least I am going home with a smile on my face because I know I can still ride. I'd been doing the same lap times from FP1 until race two and then could do the second-best times, a 46.2s, and from 13th on the grid that helped.

"We've come away with solid points, six races all with points and third in the championship. The disappointment comes because we've had two fantastic rounds.

"The first two rounds exceeded expectations a little bit because you always hope to be where we've been but na?ve to expect it with calibre of competition."
