Shane Byrne says despite sprinting under his previous lap record around Knockhill he is battling for feeling with his Be Wiser Ducati before being comfortable.

The four-time MCE British Superbike champion ended Friday free practice second fastest - just 0.036s off Michael Laverty - and has confidence in his promising pace both in qualifying runs and race simulations.

Despite this, Byrne says he's struggling with 'on the edge' feeling with his Ducati Panigale R tipping into certain corners around the home of Scottish motorsport.

Byrne says his Be Wiser Ducati crew is investigating into this relative lack of feel, with the Londoner also questioning the grip levels at Knockhill after recent heavy rain, but with his competitive pace is quietly optimistic of adding to his impressive record at the Scottish track - having taken six wins in his past seven races.

"We are making progress and the lap times are quite good but the feeling isn't," Byrne said. "There are two corners on the track which are especially difficult.

"We are not slow through them or through the sector times but from a feeling point of view I feel like both myself and the bike are capable of going quiet a lot faster around those corners. Literally feel on the edge. It doesn't feel hard, soft, loaded, unloaded it just doesn't feel!

"That said I've bettered my fastest time from when I was on the Kawasaki around here and being a quarter of a second under my own lap record in just the second session isn't bad!"
