Tech 2's David Jefferies was annoyed at not wrapping up the British Superstock title at Mallory Park last weekend after heading into the round thirty points ahead in the Championship standings.

The affable Yorkshireman was full of fight and ready to claim the championship on board the Pidcock GSX-R1000 but it was all over in a moment after a huge highside, and he was left ruing a missed chance.

Starting from third on the grid, DJ battled hard to try and pass his Roundstone rivals Chris Burns and John Crockford, but the fight didn't last long. The safety car and subsequent red flag came out almost immediately when Luke Quigley's Suzuki went over the tyre wall on the entry into Gerrard's on the first lap.

At the restart Jamie Morley sneaked past Jefferies to relegate him to fourth place but he soon made amends. Within a couple of laps the Tech2 Suzuki was mauling Burns' exhaust with heartstopping regularity. Burns made his move on Crockford and at one point the leading bikes went into the incredibly tight Shaw's Hairpin three abreast.

Jefferies all-out assault on the silver and orange bikes was to come to an abrupt end though, after chasing hard on lap eight, Jefferies high-sided in the Esses, landed heavily and that was that. His injuries could have been more serious with the severity of the crash, but he escaped with a dislocated toe.

But it was not all bad news for the championship after John Crockford got one over on his teammate Chris Burns as he got caught in the back markers. Crockford took the win, and Burns' disappointment at another second place was evident. The title chase now goes down to the wire at Donington Park on 29 September.

"I'm disappointed not to take the win today," admitted Jefferies. "It would have wrapped up the title for me. Now it has to go to the last race at Donington Park. It was my fault in the Esses. I got on the power too early, the back end got away from me and then I was off the bike. The worst part was that in the medical centre they wanted to give me an injection. I can't stand needles!"
