It might have been barely above freezing but that didn't stop Team Rizla Suzuki from coming away from testing at Snetterton encouraged for the start of the British Superbike race season.

John Reynolds and Yukio Kagayama both completed 30-laps each during the day, gathering valuable information on their new for 2003 GSX-R1000 racers. It was even more valuable for Yuki, who got his first glimpse of the track that he will race on later in the year.

The cold track temperature and high winds combined with only two left hand corners meant the tyres never got near working temperature on their left side, leaving both riders around two seconds off lap record pace. But that gave the whole team encouragement.

JR said: "To ride in these cold conditions and still be within two seconds of the lap record is really positive. We were taking it very easy, especially around the two left hand bends. I'm sure we are losing at least two seconds there alone. That bodes well for the racing."

Both riders spent most of the time testing their brake systems. By the end of the day, they made the decision to use SBS brake pads in their race machines for the coming season thanks to the sheer braking power and consistency they offer.

"We tested brake pads today and found that the SBS pads work best for us," explained Yuki, a seasoned Factory Suzuki test rider. "I also spent time learning the track. It has a very fast straight. With the freezing wind, it made me tuck in tight to the bike. I am looking forward to racing here, there are no problems with the track."

Team Manager Paul Denning added: "It was freezing today, but we got through a lot of good work that made the test worthwhile. The decision to use SBS pads is positive and we also tested some clutch settings. Yuki is comfortable with the circuit and his learning process for the UK circuits has now started."

Team Rizla Suzuki will test again at Valencia in Spain on March 8th - 10th. On the first day of the Valencia test the team will share the track with Suzuki's MotoGP team and will then meet up with it again on March 12th and 13th at Barcelona for further tests.
