Leon Haslam says a trouble free winter testing and build up to the 2017 MCE British Superbike championship has given him supreme confidence to start on the front foot at Donington Park.

The JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider is determined to put the frustrating memories of last season to rest after narrowly missing out on the BSB title to Shane Byrne.

In 2016, Haslam's home track Donington Park held the opening Showdown round and came into the race weekend heavy favourite having won four races in a row but after being beaten to the victory in race one by Byrne, Haslam pushed too hard in race two and crashed out, allowing Byrne to escape to a dominant double.

With a flawless pre-season testing programme and confidence high after securing pole position from the combined free practice times, Haslam is relishing the prospect of making amends at his home track from last year.

"Obviously pole position is fantastic but from my side of things it is not how I wanted it with the circumstances due to a big crash and the oil being split," Haslam said. "But still we've had a very good winter and created a really good who has worked well together in every session.

"Yesterday in the dry we had a plan which went practically how we wanted it to which is rare sometimes and that has got me a pole position.

"I feel pretty confident running in the dry as the races should be tomorrow and I managed to get a few laps in the rain this morning to try to find that ideal set up as well."
