Honda's Karl Harris set the pace on his return to the Supersport class during Silverstone free practice today, the former Rizla Suzuki rider holding a 0.201secs advantage over former WSBK rider Mark Heckles.

Leon Haslam proved just how adaptable he is by putting his 748 Ducati third fastest on his first real ride on the machine, and after many years on two-strokes. Yamaha's Tom Sykes with fourth, albeit a 'distant' 0.74secs off Harris.

Newcomers Triumph proved they will be in the hunt on race day by taking sixth and eighth fastest times, with Craig Jones surprisingly outpacing experienced team-mate Jim Moodie on the yellow Daytona 600s.

Qualifying takes place tomorrow with the race on Sunday.
