Rizla Suzuki rider Yukio Kagayama will start tomorrow's first round of the British Superbike Championship from the front row of the grid in third place.

The Factory Suzuki rider from Yokohama in Japan showed his class by learning the track from new in less than four hours of testing on his Rizla Suzuki GSX-R1000 Superbike.

He also showed mastery of the new qualifying format - the Dunlop Super 12 - where the top 12 riders out of first qualifying go through to a 15-minute against the clock shoot out to determine final grid positions.

"I am happy with today's result and glad to be on the front row," said Kagayama. "I have worked hard with my crew to get the feeling and balance of my GSX-R1000 to how I like it. In the final session I was able to push hard and I have confidence in my bike. I did not ride aggressively and maybe if I had, I could have recorded a faster time.

"Qualifying is different from racing and tomorrow I will be racing against these British Superbike riders for the first time. I am in a good starting position and I am looking forward to the race. I will do my best to challenge for the podium."

The first round of the 2003 British Superbike Championship starts tomorrow at 1.15 pm. Rizla Suzuki team associates Jay Kay from Jamiroquai and the model/actress Lisa B will be trackside to cheer on the team.
