For the third round in succession, 21 year old Russ Hodgson posted a superb top ten result in the ultra-competitive Virgin Mobile Yamaha R6 Cup despite problems at Thruxton over the Easter weekend.

The Yarm, Cleveland rider ended up in ninth place after fifteen tortuous laps around the 2.4 mile super-fast Hampshire circuit after challenging the leading bunch in the early stages.

And whilst the result was satisfactory given the blustery conditions, the Double M Oilfield backed rider, who posted twelfth place in qualifying, had more than his fair share of dramas during the race which was once again televised live.

"I got a great start and then a rider crashed in front of me which meant I had to take evasive action and dropped a load of places before battling back into contention. I was running with the bunch just in front but a couple of laps from the finish, my arms started pumping up really badly again and I had to ease off. I was thinking about a last lap manoeuvre but by then I'd lost the tow and the tyres had gone off so I decided to settle for some safe points," said Rusty.

Despite the result, Hodgson remains in seventh in the points standings and took consolation that his lap times were on par with the race leaders whereby he is hoping for some better luck in two weeks time when the series visits Oulton Park in Cheshire.
