Red Piranha Racing rider Simon Andrews secured his first podium for the season at Oulton Park with a storming third and has also cemented his position in third place in the British Supersport Championship.

With changeable weather all weekend Andrews showed early signs of a good result after securing provisional pole in the wet on the Saturday afternoon by seven tenths of a second.

In dry conditions on the Sunday Andrews demonstrated his ability in dry conditions with the fourth fastest time and fourth consecutive front row grid position.

In an action packed event Andrews diced with Leon Haslam for several laps before snatching third place mid-way through the race and hanging on to the finish.

"I got off to a good start and got tucked in behind Leon. I saw my opportunity around lap 10 and passed him at Island bend for third. I was able to hold him off for the remainder of the race.

"Getting that first podium has proven a little elusive and it's a really good feeling to get this one under my belt. May there be many more!"

Team manager Pete Jennings reported that the hard work put in by the team was starting to pay off.

"The teams Chief Engineer Ian Cook has been working around the clock with our engine tuners on developing the Yamaha R6 and it's all coming together with some good results. We are very pleased to have Simon in third place at this stage of the championship."
