Superbike veteran John Reynolds out-dragged Shane 'Shakey' Byrne to the finishing line to record his first win of the season for the Cresent Rizla Suzuki team in another cracking 20-lap duel in front of a massive crowd at Brands Hatch.

Reynolds led virtually the entire race distance with Byrne's MonsterMob Ducati stalking him through every turn and just when it looked as though the 2003 Champion-elect had settled for a valiant second place, he produced a daring last gasp move under braking for Stirlings on the final lap to snatch the lead.

However after the cruel disappointment of losing race one to the charismatic, yet hobbling Byrne, Reynolds was not going to be denied and fought back instantly as the two leaders came into Clearways for the final time. Byrne was off-line slightly despite being on the inside coming into the final turn and despite a mighty effort to haul the black and red Italian bike onto the racing line, Byrne slid slightly wide and allowed Reynolds to complete the switch-back perfectly and grab the inside line, and the win on the run to the flag.

More than 15 seconds behind the two leaders, Renegade Ducati's Michael Rutter completed the podium ahead of teammate Sean Emmett and Kiwi Glen Richards on the outdated, but very well sorted Hawk Kawasaki.

Yamaha duo Gary Mason and defending Champion Steve Hislop, Honda's Steve Plater, the second Kawasaki of Scott Smart and crowd favourite Yukio Kageyama rounded out the top ten.
