With paint problems at Rockingham qualifying for the British Superbike and Supersport championship was cancelled, no problem for Karl Harris, his championship points lead meant he was on pole, but he also set the fastest practice time just to be sure.

Saturday's British Superbike and Supersport Championship qualifying sessions at Rockingham circuit were cancelled due to problems with unsuitable paint on the track surface.

Last year, in a bid to increase rider safety, demarcation zones were introduced to Rockingham to keep bikes clear of the concrete walls that surround the outer reaches of the circuit. The required areas that were marked in preparation for this weekend's event left certain areas of the circuit with a lack of adhesion, which resulted in the cancellation of qualifying while shot blasting equipment was used to restore grip to the surface.

As a result, grid positions for Sunday's races were decided on current championship positions and the teams were given two half-hour free practice sessions in order to search for settings and select tyres.

Honda Racing's Supersport supremo Karl Harris made doubly sure of starting Sunday's race at the head of the pack. With the grid being determined on current championship positions, Harris was already assured of pole. However the 23-year-old former Supersport champion refused to rest on his laurels and went on to top the time sheets in the first of the two free practice sessions that replaced qualifying. He was relentlessly quick throughout the second session, dominating proceedings right up until the dying seconds when he was pipped to the fastest time of the day by Tom Sykes.

"It's been long day with all the waiting around, but it's turned out how I planned it," said Harris. "Although my starting position is based on my championship standing, I'm sure I would have been on pole anyway. I just felt very, very comfortable on the Honda Racing CBR600RR and was consistently clocking 1:12s, even though I kept the same tyre on for the whole session. I'm looking forward to the race where I'll be aiming to repeat my previous Rockingham performance, when I won by ten seconds."
