Team Vitrans rider Dean Thomas followed his Brands Hatch victory with third place in Sunday's seventh round British Supersport race at Rockingham in Northamptonshire.

The race was won by Honda's Karl Harris with Stuart Easton finishing in second place on a Ducati. Thomas's team-mate, Michael Laverty was sixth.

With limited practice available because of track problems at Rockingham, the starting grid was formed based on current championship positions, putting both Vitrans riders on the second row.

"I had a big crash on Friday after sliding off on the white lines," explained Thomas. "It caused a lot of damage to the bike and I was still a bit sore for the race.

"We probably went for too hard a compound with our Pirelli rear in the race," added the Australian, "but I'm happy to be on the podium and moving up to fourth in the championship."

Laverty was also satisfied with his performance after failing to finish in the previous round.

"My confidence needed a boost," said the Irishman, who won at Snetterton earlier in the season, "and that sixth place has certainly helped. I'm looking forward to the next round at Mondello Park in Ireland which will be a bit like a home race for me."
