British 125cc team UK1 Racing has announced that they have appointment British Motorcycling legend Ron Haslam as their new director of racing, responsible for rider and machine development, effective immediately.

Haslam, pictured with son Leon, has a wealth of road racing experience - including many years as the top British competitor in the premier 500cc GP championship - making his appointment a major boost for the new team.

Rocket Ron's day-to-day role within the team will see him overseeing the development of their two RS125 Hondas as well as helping to nurture and mentor their young rider Jon 'Boy' Lee.

"This is the perfect job for me," said the former GP star. "It will allow me to work on bike development, which I love, and help a young and promising rider to reach his full potential."

Team owner Kevin Newton has spent a number of months trying to secure Haslam's signature and was naturally delighted to have the high profile Brit on board.

"Ron Haslam is the perfect person to help us achieve our goals in 125 racing, both in the UK and in a much wider context," stated Newton. "His massive experience and skill in working with young riders and setting up racing motorcycles has already become a priceless asset that will only become more valuable to us as our projects develop!"

Haslam will also be involved in a number of other to-be-announced UK1 Racing projects due to come on line later this year.

The team's next outing will be at Oulton Park on August 9-10.
