MonsterMob Ducati rider Shane 'Shakey' Byrne bounced back from a morning practice crash to take third place in the Dunlop Super 12 qualifying for tomorrow's races at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire.

The 26 year old from the Isle of Sheppey could clinch the British Superbike Championship this weekend if he manages to stay ahead of closest rival John Reynolds (Suzuki).

"I feel as if I've been booted really hard up my backside - I'm a bit stiff and sore," said Byrne after sliding off his bike going into a left hander just before the mountain section. "I touched the white line at a bit of an angle and thought I'm not going anywhere now!"

Unaffected by the crash, Byrne led the grid-deciding session until the final couple of minutes when first Michael Rutter and then John Reynolds nosed ahead but by barely a quarter of a second.

Team-mate Stuart Easton faces an uphill struggle if he is to retain the British Supersport title for a second year after qualifying fourth fastest in a session dominated by the series leader Karl Harris who starts the tenth round from pole position.

The 20 year old Hawick rider currently holds second place in the Championship 45 points behind Harris, with 75 points still up for grabs.
