Red Piranha Racing rider Simon Andrews had his best result of the season at Brands Hatch at the weekend finishing a close second to eventual winner Stuart Easton having set a new lap record in the process and securing third place in the championship with one round remaining.

Andrews who qualified third on the short Indy circuit rounded the first corner in fifth place. He swapped positions with Adrian Coates for several laps before making a break and then set his sights on the lead group of riders.

He passed Dean Thomas for fourth and having missed the coming together of Michael Laverty and Karl Harris ended the race in a thrilling battle with Easton for the top spot.

"I really enjoyed it out there today", said Andrews after the race. "After the start I got my head down and started chasing the lead pack. It was unfortunate that Michael and Karl went down but it allowed me to latch on to Stuart and battle it out right to the end.

"Setting a new lap record along the way was a bonus and I know it means a lot to my chief engineer Ian Cook and our engine tuners Race Techniques."

Team manager Pete Jennings reported that it was a very tense race. "Simon has developed a real knack for storming through the field during a race. He had slipped to sixth at one point but we all knew he would get quicker and quicker as the race progressed and sure enough he's done it again. The battle with Stuart for the lead at the end was sensational but it has left me a complete bundle of nerves."

Andrews now heads to the final round at Donington assured of third place in the Supersport Championship having now built up an unassailable points lead over his nearest rivals.
