Shane Byrne will be hoping to cap off his Championship winning season with a double victory in Sunday's British Superbike double-header finale at Donington Park and the charismatic rider will start his bid from the front of the field after setting fastest time in regular qualifying and the Dunlop Super 12 session.

The combination of Byrne and his Monstermob Ducati team was simply too strong for everyone else around Donington's undulating 2.5-mile Grand Prix layout as the 2003 Champ comfortably outpaced ETI Racing's Sean Emmett in both regular qualifying and the Super 12.

'Shaky,' who would dearly love to move on to pastures new next year with the Monstermob squad, put up a best mark of 1:32.104secs in the Super 12 session, three tenths faster than Emmett's Ducati and more than six tenths quicker than Michael Rutter's Renegade machine.

From a massive field of 35 riders, only fourth and fifth placed qualifiers John Reynolds and Leon Haslam were able to lap within a second of Byrne and the rest of the top three with Glen Richards' mercurial skills on the Hawk Kawasaki only netting the Kiwi sixth spot and the experience of returning former Champ Niall Mackenzie only good enough for eighth on the second Rizla Suzuki.
